Is there a way to specify backup trunk server. So, if a server is not
available, register with the backup server.

Thanks in advance

Probably not. Sip bridge does not have the ability to determine to use
another gateway. The proxy only knows a REAL unavailable code and then can
use the alternate gateway.

Sip bridge doesn't have the ability to properly determine the availability
or status of a gateway or a call and relay "kill this call and lets try
door #2" ... yet.

Even a SBC doesn't always have that ability. It ALSO depends on whether it
can generate a 486 or something the will make the proxy try an alternate.

On inbound that should be handled at the its though.

It would be great if it could. For instance, my provider is voip.ms.
They have many servers spread out throughout the country. new york
server became unavailable today. Would have been great if it could
automatically switch.

Thanks

You can do that with 2 voip.ms gateways in sipx. You just add the order
of pref. in the dial plan(s).

They just need to go to two different voip.ms pops.

You need to setup a subaccount in voip.ms to use another login.

I think there is a missing point here... if sipx is registered and the
calls are not being processed by the itsp, the outbound calls "will still
fail". The inbound calls are inconsequential because there are multiple
failover methods for inbound calls at this particular ITSP.

If the users can't make calls and something is stuck (authenticated or ip,
connected or not) at either sipx or the itsp, sipx will not resort to
another gateway. THis is because the proxy is not being told "anything"
about the failure because of the ITSP state (being in la la land). It's
been an ongoing theme for voip.ms since Sandy hity NYC.
