Discussion:
Server with 2 NIC Cards

I am installing a SipX 4.4 for a customer of mine. They are
a web design company and insisted they buy their own server.
When looking at the configuration I noticed that the Dell
BOM had the server with dual NIC cards. It is my
understanding that SipX will not work on a server with 2 NIC
cards even if only one is being used.

Am I correct in my assumption?

It will work. Just configure only one of them.

OK so if I am installing from an ISO how would I go about
disabling one of the NIC cards if the server is being
shipped with no OS? I guess maybe I would have to talk to
the manufacturer? Or does it get disabled through Linux on
the SipX?

If you install with ISO, it will find the one NIC you have attached to the
network, which you will assign an IP to. That is all there is to it.

i.e

eth1 config file:
BOOTPROTO=none
NAME=""
HOTPLUG=no
MACADDR=""
HWADDR=00:26:B9:76:B8:FE
IPV6INIT=no
DEVICE=eth1
NETMASK=""
MTU=""
BROADCAST=""
IPADDR=""
NETWORK=""
ONBOOT=no

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1

on boot=no, it doesn't get turned on by the config.

Another option worth considering is to bond the two NIC cards and assign the IP address to the bond0 interface.

Just a thought as this is what I have done with all my sipXecs 4.4.0 installs.
