Openfire message logging

I've checked the box to do the message logging but I'm not able to locate the sipxopenfire-im.log

I'm running sipXecs (4.6.0. 2012-11-07EST00:11:59 ip-10-72-43-110.ec2.internal) if that helps.

Can anyone shed some light or point me where I should be looking? I've checked the logs in /var/log and /opt/openfire/logs but I'm not finding it.

Thanks in advance.

Check /etc/sipxpbx/sipxopenfire.xml, there should be 2 xml elements like

<IM-message-logging>true</IM-message-logging>
<IM-message-logging-directory>/var/log/sipxpbx</IM-message-logging-directory>

If it doesn't create it under /var/log/sipxpbx then this is a bug

Tony,
Thanks for the reply.

I would agree but I don't show anything related to sipxopenfire or simply openfire in /var/log/sipxpbx

My filenames go (alphabetically) freeswitch_http.log(date) then sipregistrar.log and then sipxlogwatcher.log-(date) then sipxpage.log

Try to manually change

<IM-message-logging-directory>/var/log/sipxpbx</IM-message-logging-directory>

to

<IM-message-logging-directory>/opt/openfire/logs</IM-message-logging-directory>

then restart openfire and see if it gets created there, could be that
daemon user (that is the one that openfire runs with) does not have perms
on /var/log/sipxpbx.
If still no go try to grant write access to all users on /var/log/sipxpbx

In my 4.6 I don't have it turned on but my config file is set for:

<IM-message-logging>false</IM-message-logging>

<IM-message-logging-directory>/var/log/sipxpbx</IM-message-logging-directory>

I made this change manually and did a cli restart of openfire (service
openfire restart). The file is now present. Sounds like a JIRA.

There is an advanced setting in System > Instant Messaging, under
Message Logging
called Enabled and defaults to unchecked, please make sure it is checked.

Tony/George,
Thanks for the help.

I did have the message logging enabled in the advanced settings for Instant Messaging but the file wasn't there.

I changed the setting manually in the config like you both suggested and now it's showing up. I'll dig in deeper and make sure it's not going to change back after an update or simply a reboot over the weekend when I have more time. And consider a JIRA after that.

I appreciate the quick response and direction to a resolution.

Thanks!
