Cisco 7961G phone and sipXecs

Any ideas on how to get the Cisco 7961G phone working with sipXecs? I have
it working on an Asterisk installation, but when registered on the sipXecs
server, whatever I do to the phone config, I can dial voicemail (101) but
not any extensions. When dialing voicemail, I get the standard automated
menu; when dialing an extension, I get a fast busy signal and "Reorder" on
the display. I have tried the phone config file straight out of sipXecs
4.4.0, a phone config file that is functionally identical to the working
Asterisk one but with the sipXecs server and login, and basically
everything in between. I also have a Polycom SoundPoint IP 601 phone that
is working fine with sipXecs. I have tried restarting the server -- still
no dice.

Help!

How many of these sets do you have? If it's only a few it would be worth
your time just to buy new sets. Cisco 79xx phones have notoriously bad SIP
stacks and as a result don't work well in a pure SIP proxy environment like
sipXecs. Let us know how many of them you have.

We had a similar problem and just ended up replacing them with Polycom's.
Never had a problem after that.

Nine, the one Polycom, and zero other handsets. :( We liked how it worked
with Asterisk better than the Polycom, so we bought more, but then switched
to sipXecs because Asterisk doesn't do SLA well at all, and SipXecs does.
We're trying to set up a VoIP proof of concept on a shoestring budget so we
can get approval to replace our legacy PBX, and we're probably not going to
be able to return the Ciscos, so I'd like to get them to work if at all
possible.

David,

Flat out, it's not going to work. From my understanding the Cisco 79xx
will not do SLA with our commercial product. I don't think they even do
SLA if they are running SIP and talking to Call Manager.

Sounds like you may have made a poor gamble. Not sure what else to tell
you.

You have to prove the concept of VoIP? :-)

The SIP on those phones is horribly broken. They can work Ok with a system
that can run off IP addresses and is a b2bua like Asterisk.

We have a commercial component for openUC (our commercial version of
sipXecs) that we're trialing now at a large potential customer that is
basically an SBC that mangles SIP so that we can present it in a manner
those phones like.

Thanks,
Mike

SLA is not supported on Cisco SIP phones at all, not even on Cisco Call
Manager.

As it appears you have just started down this path with 10 handsets, It
would probably be best just to get 2 or 3 more Polycom sets to commence
your testing. Polycom is certified with sipXecs and is known to work very
well.

Ditto the other comments about Cisco phones, bad idea. The only real
RFC-compliant SIP firmware Cisco provided was for the old 79[46]0 phones.

But for testing purposes, you might want to try the 9.2.3 firmware -
we had the phones working* on that load.

*Working == register, take and make calls, and that's about it.
