4.6 Projection error to Ciscoplus 7945G

Good afternoon,

Today I downloaded and installed 4.6 on a virtual machine using the x86_64 installation ISO. I was able to set my password on the administration page and create an account for myself and a Ciscoplus 7945G phone. But when I went to project the configuration file to this first phone, I got this error in the job log:

Projection for: 34bdc1234567|9/7/12 4:06 PM|9/7/12 4:06 PM|Failed|Invocation of method 'getValue' in class org.sipfoundry.sipxconfig.setting.ConditionalSettingImpl threw exception java.lang.NullPointerException @ ciscoplus/config.vm[134,44]

Before crashing, the job did create the file SEP34BDC1234567.cnf.xml in /var/sipxdata/configserver/phone/profile/tftproot/, but it was zero bytes long.

I've attached the output of sipxconfig.log, as well as screenshots showing what I put in for my account, the phone and the line.

Please accept my apologies if I'm making a silly-first-time-user mistake; any gentle guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you and best regards,

Bill Nickless

Hello,

Thanks for reporting back.
I suspect this happens when no sipx proxy / registar feature is enabled
for the server, could you share the options that you enabled in servers >
telephony tab?

Hello,
Thanks for reporting back.
You're welcome -- and thank you for the quick response!

None of those features are enabled. It's just a straight off-the-ISO installation, as I was trying to follow the bouncing ball through the quick start (http://wiki.sipfoundry.org/display/sipXecs/Quick+Start) to set up two extensions that could place calls to each other. (I don't have any real experience with IP telephony so I thought I should start very simple.)

Which options on the servers > telephony tab should I enable?

Thank you and best regards,

Bill Nickless

PS: You might ask--if you're starting simple, why the Cisco 7945G instruments? Not my first choice, given their cost and complexity. But external constraints force the use of the Cisco 79xx family. I have much more flexibility on the back-end software selection than on the choice of instruments.

Proxy, registrar and voicemail / autoattendant should suffice for startup

Hi Bill,

If you have large numbers of Cisco phones we have a new component coming
for openUC (the commercial version of sipXecs) that will provide a high
level of operation for these phones.

What we have found with the Cisco 79xx series of phones is that their SIP
implementation is rather poor for use with standards based systems. Cisco
really tunes the SIP settings for use with Call Manager.

We have built a service for openUC that addresses these shortcomings and
allows for a more seamless re-use of these phones. We'll be going to trial
at 2 very large organizations within the next month (one 18,000 seats, one
5,000 seats).

Thanks,
Mike
